Last week Alex Lindsay sat down with Steve Martin and Mark Spencer for a two hour discussion on the new FCP X, Motion and Compressor. They took tons of questions from the audience/chat and gave out alot of new perspective.

Two weeks ago I visited Zacuto headquarters for the filming of CRITICS season 3. I’m a HUGE fan of FilmFellas and I own alot of Zacuto hardware, so it was a magical thing to be able to do.

I flew into Chicago O’Hare and caught a taxi to the DSLR meetup. After a long rush hour drive in bumper to bumper traffic I finally arrived at Navy Pier! I said hello to my roommate for the trip Phil Hoyt and my buddy Phil Bloom. I was the first to try out Phil’s new signature edition slider, which unlike him was very smooth and sexy ;)

The next morning I woke up bright and early. I wanted to take a little walk around the city with my 7d before my day at Zacuto started. I snapped off a bunch of photos as I made my way towards Phil’s hotel. Phil had just received a new lens for his Leica M9, so he was like a kid with a new toy.

The Zacuto building was clean, welcoming, and even larger than I had expected. Steve Weiss told me that they had just finished expanding, and this season of CRITICS was being filmed in a brand new studio. The walls were decorated with old film and ENG cameras, which gave the space a very cool nostalgic feel. My favorite feature of the building had to be the spiral staircase that connected the 1st and 2nd floor. It was such a unique feature. I loved walking up and down the stairs, even though at one point I almost tripped and fell to my death :D

For a while now I’ve needed an Israeli arm to support my field monitor. I had been looking at the Zacuto Z-American arms for a while, but wasn’t exactly sure what pieces I should purchase to work best with my rig. After filming wrapped, Jens was nice enough to walk me through the purchase. I’m very glad that I picked up a Z-American arm, it’s a tremendous piece of equipment.

I put together a little film of my Chicago Z-adventure, check it out…

Thanks again to the whole Z~Crew; Steve, Jens, Scott, Daniel, Susan and everyone else whose names I’ve forgotten, it was a real treat ;)
